Benefits of Meditaion
➢ I believe the number one benefit of meditation is that YOU ARE MAKING TIME FOR YOU! Too often, we fail to make time for ourselves in this fast-paced world. We invest in one of our most precious resources by creating time to meditate. We are investing in our mental and physical health. Take the time to meditate because you deserve it.
➢ Reducing stress. For that 10 or 20 minutes a day, we escape the bombardment of negativity that the world and news have become. This mental escape is key to reducing stress; along with the exercise of controlled breathing, we can lower heart rates and stress levels in the long run.
➢ Increased focus. Think of your mind as a muscle. Focusing on our breathing lets us get in touch with where our tensions lie. We strengthen our ability to focus our lives.
➢ Better memory. Many studies have shown that meditation has a long-term benefit to memory.
➢ It increases compassion. Clearing and sharpening our minds can be kinder to ourselves and others. As we repeat positive words (mantras) and thoughts about ourselves and the world around us, we shift how we perceive others and our existence.
➢ Better sleep. Meditating before bedtime can shorten the time it takes to sleep and significantly increase sleep quality. Stretching before meditating can also be a fruitful endeavour to maximize its effectiveness.
➢ Lower Blood pressure. BP decreases during meditation and over time in people who meditate regularly—helping to prevent heart disease.
➢ Less anxiety and depression. Many studies have shown this to be true. People who meditate often have a higher sense of self-worth. Coupled with all the factors above, we can have less social anxiety and reduce feelings of depression. Positive thoughts about oneself in the process of meditation can have very beneficial effects in our everyday life.
So please, friends, try to add a daily component of stretching and meditation to your life. You are an expression of the wonder of the Universe, and you deserve all of its benefits.
MEDITATION TYPES
For thousands of years, people have been improving their lives through mediation. There are many forms of Meditation, but we will begin with some of the most popular:
➢ Loving-kindness meditation is also known as Metta meditation.
➢ Active meditation like Kundalini yoga physically blends movement with deep breathing and mantras.
➢ Breath awareness meditation is an awareness meditation that encourages conscious breathing. Practitioners breathe slowly and deeply, counting their breaths or otherwise focusing on the breath.
➢ Mindfulness meditation is a form that urges practitioners to remain aware and present in the moment.
➢ Body scan or progressive relaxation meditation is a form that encourages people to scan their bodies for areas of tension, breathe into the tension, and release.
